The Accounting Director will oversee the Accounting Department and collaborate closely with the Director of Operations and report to the Managing Partner to achieve departmental and firm-wide objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Oversight
    • Oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and payroll functions
    • Maintain accounting transactions and records to the general ledger; responsible for month-end account reconciliations and preparing monthly financial statements
  • Financial Reporting
    • Prepare month-end journal entries and review general ledger details monthly
    • Perform monthly trust account reconciliation
  • Financial Planning and Analysis
    • Prepare the firm's annual budget, including revenue forecasts, and coordinate with and assist department heads on completion of their budgets
    • Manage all aspects of financial reporting with cross-departmental collaboration, including profitability analysis (firm level and individual timekeeper level), compensation, and rate determination, as well as creation of other reports requested by firm management
  • Financial Operations
    • Approve and release weekly payments, checks, and wires
    • Create, maintain, and update process documentation; create new documentation as needed
    • Oversee third-party vendor 1099 reporting
  • Financial Leadership
    • Work with CPA to oversee the maintenance of fixed assets and accumulated depreciation records using fixed asset application; ensure fixed asset inventory database is updated
    • Assist CPA with tax-related matters
    • Create best practice procedures for accounting activities and drive process improvements, utilizing technology to improve efficiency
    • Manage, mentor, and develop the Accounting team members
  • Financial Performance Monitoring
    • Monitor and report on key firm financial metrics and KPIs, and set and achieve departmental OKRs
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance or a related field is required
  • CPA license or MBA is preferred
  • 5+ years of general accounting experience in a law firm or professional services firm required
  • 5+ years of management experience with multiple direct reports
  • Knowledge of GAAP and accounting concepts
  • Proficient with project management, document management, and data visualization applications
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Business Central and Microsoft Dynamics or similar system preferred, or proven ability to learn and acclimate to a new accounting software
