Position Overview

The Polymer Process Specialist is responsible for the setup, operation, and troubleshooting of polymer processing equipment utilizing established methodologies to aid in product and application development as well as technical support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Uphold TSRC values, business ethics, compliance standards, and conduct codes.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and procedures without exception.
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot production machinery including thermoplastic extruders, compounders, injection molding machines, blown film lines, roll mills, hot presses, and other heavy equipment such as forklifts.
  • Recommend and implement modifications to equipment to enhance compatibility with various polymer materials.
  • Accurately document observations and process parameters.
  • Prepare test specimens using appropriate methodologies and equipment.
  • Maintain up-to-date laboratory procedures and develop new protocols as necessary.
  • Establish and uphold a mechanical integrity program for all equipment.
  • Conduct laboratory tests on diverse samples following ASTM, ISO, or internal methods, and report findings systematically to senior scientists and engineers.
  • Ensure the application workshop is clean and organized on a daily basis.
  • Actively participate as a team member, demonstrating leadership and training capabilities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management or supervisors.

Experience Requirements

  • Ability to set and achieve goals, identifying necessary resources and processes.
  • Proficient in reading, interpreting, and following written instructions and directions.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures, including OSHA standards and regulations.
  • Preferred mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Capability to recognize and respond safely to emergency situations.
  • Strong multitasking, prioritization, and follow-through abilities.
  • Effective communication skills; fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking) with the ability to convey information clearly across all organizational levels.
  • Excellent computer proficiency, including the MS Office suite and the ability to learn advanced software quickly.
  • Reliability and dependability are essential.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and learning.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.

Educational Requirements

  • High School diploma with 8 years of experience in thermoplastic polymer processing, or
  • College degree with 3 years of experience in thermoplastic polymer processing, or
  • Bachelor's degree in polymer engineering.

Travel Requirements

Willingness to travel for training and occasionally to observe customer technologies, with total travel not exceeding 10%.

Work Environment

This position is situated in a laboratory environment with process machinery, involving minor exposure to various chemicals and compounds, some of which may be hazardous or flammable. Employees must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Physical Demands

Employees must be able to walk, sit, speak, and hear regularly. Standing for extended periods, using hands for handling or feeling, and reaching with arms are required. Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching may be necessary. The ability to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds is required. Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Travel by air, rail, bus, and car (including rental vehicles) may be required.
