Position Summary

The Vice President of Finance will play a pivotal role in steering the financial direction of Michigan Tech as it strives towards its strategic vision for 2035. This executive position requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in finance, particularly within sectors such as healthcare, banking, non-profit, or higher education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the financial health of the university by managing budgets, ensuring prudent investment of funds, and safeguarding the institution's financial resources.
  • Provide strategic financial advice to the President and senior administration, including regular updates on financial status and forecasts during Board meetings.
  • Guide the preparation of the university's annual budget and appropriations request to the state, ensuring alignment with institutional goals.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards by supervising the maintenance of accurate financial records and reports.
  • Facilitate effective governance by supplying financial insights to the Board of Trustees and implementing their directives through established policies.
  • Mitigate financial risks by coordinating with independent auditors during annual reviews.
  • Collaborate with departmental leaders to develop financial plans that support academic innovation and growth.
  • Manage procurement services and oversee all real estate transactions and risk management activities.
  • Foster a diverse and inclusive work environment that values cultural understanding and collaboration.
  • Promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with all institutional policies.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the President.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in strategic financial leadership and organizational growth.
  • Expertise in capital planning and financing.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with a collaborative approach to managing teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive organizational change and manage complex financial operations.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Understanding of shared governance principles and the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant financial management experience and a bachelor's degree in a related field.
