Position Overview:

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is accountable for the development, execution, and enhancement of manufacturing processes, methodologies, and controls to align with product specifications and quality benchmarks.

This role involves diagnosing production challenges to identify root causes and implement corrective measures. The engineer will oversee the manufacturing launch for new or modified products and provide support to production teams to achieve key performance metrics. Responsibilities also include specifying tooling needs and managing tooling implementation initiatives. Additionally, the engineer will recommend, justify, and facilitate the acquisition of new manufacturing equipment.

No direct supervisory duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and refine efficient manufacturing processes by analyzing product requirements and researching, designing, modifying, and validating manufacturing, assembly, and inspection techniques.
  • Specify, cost-justify, design, develop, and test various tools, machinery, and equipment for proposed manufacturing methods; or oversee their procurement.
  • Coordinate the manufacturing launch of new or revised products, which includes establishing processes, implementing new tooling, creating written procedures, addressing manufacturing issues, and assessing outcomes.
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes to identify continuous improvement opportunities in safety, quality, delivery, and cost. Utilize knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials. Engage with equipment vendors and gather insights from operators. Collect, analyze, and summarize manufacturing data and trends.
  • Implement quality control objectives, activities, or procedures to address production challenges, enhance product reliability, or reduce costs.
  • Ensure equipment functionality by specifying and coordinating maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Develop design-for-manufacturing criteria and process capability expertise to contribute to future product and process design efforts.
  • Engage with clients, suppliers, staff, and management regarding purchases, product and production specifications, manufacturing capabilities, or project progress.
  • Provide a manufacturing engineering presence on the production floor to ensure collaboration with team members across all shifts and offer necessary engineering support and feedback.
  • Serve as a technical resource for incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions. Participate in finished product and raw material MRB processes when required.
  • Deliver training to production and support personnel. Develop and implement standard operating procedures and support the adoption of standard manufacturing practices.
  • Mentor fellow engineers and technicians in best practices.

Education and Experience:
A four-year degree from an accredited institution in an Engineering discipline or equivalent. Preference for Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

Demonstrated Skills:

  • Engineering and Technology: Proficient in applying engineering principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment in the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Production and Processing: Knowledgeable in raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for optimizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Problem Solving: Capable of analyzing complex issues and leading a systematic approach to identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Project Management: Skilled in driving projects to completion using tools and strategies to define scope, schedule, and resource requirements.
  • Communication: Effective in conveying complex concepts to all organizational levels in both verbal and written formats.
  • Mathematics: Proficient in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Mechanical: Knowledgeable about machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Design: Familiar with design techniques, tools, and principles involved in producing precision technical plans, drawings, and models.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer applications. CAD software skills are preferred, particularly in Creo. Familiarity with ERP and MES systems is desired.
  • Language: Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Quality: Strong attention to detail and accuracy; capable of identifying, troubleshooting, and determining root causes of issues.
  • Teamwork: Ability to balance team and individual responsibilities; open to others' views; maintains a positive attitude and team spirit.
