Job Summary

The Center for Orthopedic and Research Excellence (CORE) is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Surgery Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our scheduling department, you will be responsible for coordinating schedules of multiple resources, including outside facilities, and ensuring seamless communication with patients, physicians, and clinical staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate schedules of multiple resources, including outside facilities
  • Gather pertinent information from insurance carriers and physicians to ensure patient financial obligations are met
  • Call patients to schedule surgery within 48 hours of referral and schedule pre-op and post-op appointments
  • Provide ongoing communication with patients regarding pre-certification, authorization, financial counseling, and scheduling process
  • Collect patients' responsibility via telephone or instruct patients to bring required payment to their Pre-op appointment
  • Communicate clinical instructions needed for appointments/procedures
  • Update system for any changes or additions to schedule
  • Accurately update patient information in the practice management system and EMR
  • Ensure cancelled appointments and related ancillary appointments are cancelled and communicated to all stakeholders
  • Initiate authorization for surgery in a timely manner and obtain authorization at least 48 hours prior to procedure

Requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge preferred
  • 0-2 years of surgery scheduling experience or related experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, patients, and the public and establish good working relationships with internal and external customers

Physical/Mental Demands:

  • Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment
  • Some bending and stretching required
  • Manual dexterity using a calculator and computer keyboard
