Senior Director, Facility Operations & Maintenance (Regular, Full-Time)

Facility Management

Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Facilities & Sustainability, the Senior Director of Facility Operations & Maintenance offers strategic and operational guidance for all functions related to building system management, upkeep, and engineering. This role involves the development and execution of maintenance and operational strategies for the current campus and future properties. Collaborating with the Associate VP of Facilities, the Senior Director will assist in formulating and reviewing technical specifications and requirements for both existing and prospective buildings. The Senior Director oversees daily maintenance operations and provides direction to contractors and engineering personnel to fulfill departmental objectives and adhere to industry standards. Additionally, this position is responsible for planning and managing the annual budget allocated for Engineering, Facility Maintenance, and Energy initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver technical knowledge and operational support during the planning, development, pre-construction, construction, and commissioning stages of facility projects and exhibitions.
  • Formulate, implement, and assess departmental objectives, plans, and strategies.
  • Define and execute strategies for the upkeep and operation of buildings and systems.
  • Evaluate the condition of facilities, building systems, and campus to ensure compliance with established policies, guidelines, and applicable regulations.
  • Organize, assign, and oversee work, including corrective and preventive maintenance tasks, in line with established policies and regulations.
  • Review and supervise the work of staff and contractors to ensure quality and completeness in accordance with departmental standards and practices.
  • Manage the work order process, including scheduling, communication, report generation, ensuring quality and compliance with departmental standards.
  • Establish departmental priorities based on maintenance and safety requirements, as well as staff requests for assistance.
  • Develop and implement strategies for the efficient use of staff and contractors based on departmental priorities.
  • Conduct regular meetings with staff and contractors to discuss work priorities, performance metrics, project status, and identify areas for efficiency improvements.
  • Communicate and clarify existing or new work procedures, policies, and guidelines.
  • Oversee vendor selection, project scope, contract development, implementation, and execution.
  • Enforce established safety protocols within the department.
  • Identify and recommend renovations and upgrades to facilities, campus, or building systems.
  • Ensure quality control and assurance for all work performed by maintenance and operational staff and contractors.
  • Manage the budget for Engineering and Facility Maintenance, including forecasting for budget submissions, monitoring expenditures, and generating necessary reports.
  • Monitor and evaluate work, product quality, customer service standards, and performance goals to initiate improvements and enhance service levels.
  • Oversee projects assigned to the Facilities department.
  • Manage the Engineering and Maintenance Operations teams, including hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluation, and disciplinary actions as required.
  • Perform additional duties or special projects as assigned.
  • Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.

Benefits:

  • The anticipated annual salary for this position is $125,000 to $135,000, subject to change, and is eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including a pension plan.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Facility Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7 to 10 years of experience in a similar role.
