Position Overview

The Telecommunications Systems Specialist will oversee the design, development, and upkeep of diverse technologies essential for various communication sectors. These experts engage in software, electronics, and apparatus for communication systems, including intercoms, audiovisual setups, telephony, and fiber optic network frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise in the design and execution of projects related to CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, public address systems, intercoms, audiovisual systems, telephony, fiber/copper network frameworks, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), and real-time information systems along with their associated hardware and software.
  • Assist in the creation and refinement of design calculations, technical documentation, engineering plans, and specifications for designated projects.
  • Utilize engineering methodologies, procedures, and design standards for projects of varying scales and complexities.
  • Collaborate as part of a team to ensure successful project outcomes across a wide array of client projects.
  • Contribute to the formulation and advancement of communication system designs for assigned initiatives.
  • Conduct field assessments and liaise with client representatives to finalize design engineering for communication systems.
  • Establish and maintain robust client relationships.
  • Generate technical reports and prepare presentations to effectively communicate information to team members and clients.
  • Participate in project review and progress meetings with clients.
  • Evaluate shop drawings and submissions to verify contractor compliance with designs, specifications, and contractual obligations.
  • Complete assigned tasks within the established timeline and budget.
  • Assist in the formulation of project specifications.
  • Responsible for developing discipline-specific engineering project components/deliverables such as reports, designs, and plans.
  • Support the coordination and productivity of project team members.
  • Provide technical mentorship to less experienced project team members.
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Engineering and other disciplines on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Work in conjunction with subcontractors, suppliers, manufacturers, and systems integrators to ensure that designs are feasible and commercially available.
  • Conduct quality control reviews of discipline-specific engineering project components/deliverables.
  • Assist in the coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and work distribution within the discipline.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Support the development and updates of internal communications systems technical manuals.
  • Assist in the creation, updates, and instruction of internal communications systems training programs.

Essential Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in one or more low voltage communication systems, including CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, public address systems, intercoms, audiovisual systems, telephony, fiber/copper network frameworks, SCADA, and real-time information systems along with their associated hardware and software.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD/Revit.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience of 4 years in a relevant field.
  • Experience with transportation communication systems (mass transit/rail, aviation, etc.) is preferred.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification with a desire to pursue PE certification or a current PE certification is preferred.
  • BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification is preferred.
