We are actively seeking talented individuals for the role of Environmental Planner/Deputy Project Manager in the Southwest Region to bolster our expanding energy practice, particularly in the areas of siting, permitting, and engineering.

With decades of nationwide experience, Tetra Tech provides extensive technical expertise and a profound understanding of federal, state, and local regulations.

Successful candidates will possess a robust technical background in siting, permitting, and assessing environmental impacts of energy initiatives, including solar, wind, energy storage, and transmission line projects.

This position can be Remote or Hybrid, with a preference for candidates located in the Southwest Region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead tasks related to energy projects, including proposal development, cost estimation, project execution, budget management, client satisfaction, and staff mentorship.
  • Assist in energy facility siting/routing, permitting, environmental surveys, resource analysis, agency coordination, and public outreach.
  • Collaborate with a team to prepare various local jurisdictional permitting efforts.
  • Support the management of resource studies (e.g., wildlife biology, wetlands, cultural resources) related to energy project permitting and prepare permit applications for state utility boards.
  • Represent clients before regulatory and land management agencies, planning commissions, and councils, making presentations to secure project approvals.
  • Work with environmental, regulatory, and land use agencies, including the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and be familiar with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) planning.
  • Handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, coordinate effectively, and work independently within a team.
  • Research and interpret regulations to assess project permitting feasibility and interface with regulatory agencies.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, effective communication skills, and strong organizational capabilities.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5 to 10+ years of relevant consulting experience, including managing technical teams and project management.
  • Familiarity with resources and regulatory agencies in the Southwest Region.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent writing and computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Compliance with federal regulations regarding pre-employment drug screening and physical examinations, if necessary.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
