Plant Technician

Talen Energy is seeking a highly skilled Plant Technician - Instrumentation and Electrical Specialist to join our team at the Brandon Shores Power Plant in Baltimore, MD. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for performing tests, troubleshooting, and maintenance on electrical equipment and controls for power plant operations.
Key Responsibilities- Electrical Equipment Maintenance: Inspect, maintain, and repair electrical equipment, including cables, power transformers, circuit breakers, and motors.
- Instrumentation and Control Systems: Perform tests, troubleshooting, and maintenance on DCS (Ovation), Continuous Emissions Monitors, Instrumentation, PLCs (Allen Bradley), and water chemistry equipment.
- High Voltage Switching: Perform high voltage switching of circuit breakers and transformers.
- Lockout/Tagout Procedures: Perform lockout/tagout of electrical equipment in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Shift Work and Travel: Subject to rotating shift work, holiday, and weekend work, as well as occasional travel to other facilities.
- Education and Experience: Satisfactory completion of post-high school courses in AC & DC electrical theory/equipment applications, or over five years related work experience, or equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience.
- Skills and Competencies: Proficient at reading and understanding electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and one-line drawings; able to use test equipment such as voltage testers, insulation resistance testers, ammeters, and phase meters; general knowledge of electrical theory; understands the operation and use of Programmable Logic Control (PLC); has a working knowledge of motors, transformers, relays, breakers, switches, and solenoids.
- Licenses and Certifications: Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to meet Company driving standards.
The physical demands of this job include working in an outdoor environment, climbing stairs, ladders, and working on elevated platforms; standing for long periods of time; lifting 45 pounds overhead and 75 pounds from the floor to 36 inches; working around high voltage; and wearing respirators and working in dusty environments.
The mental demands of this job include using written and oral communication skills, reading and interpreting data, information, and documents; analyzing and solving complex problems; observing and interpreting situations; using math and mathematical reasoning; dealing with changing, intensive deadlines; and interacting with internal and external clients.
