Talen Energy is seeking a highly skilled Plant Technician - Fuel Operations to join our team at the Brandon Shores Power Plant in Baltimore, MD. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of fuel handling equipment, including barge unloaders, stacker/reclaimers, and conveyor systems.
Key Responsibilities- Operate and maintain fuel handling equipment, including bulldozers, loaders, and conveyor systems, to ensure safe and efficient fuel unloading and reclaiming.
- Perform routine maintenance on fuel handling and coal combustion by-products (CCB) equipment, including inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs.
- Initiate orders for regular equipment services and ensure completion of necessary repairs or modifications.
- Work in baghouse compartments to replace bags and perform minor repairs, as well as tension bags as needed.
- Perform other fuel handling duties as required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in the safe operation of fuel handling equipment, associated with the unloading and reclaiming of fuel and the disposal of coal combustion products.
- Previous experience or working knowledge in mechanical and electrical maintenance, repair, or mechanical modifications as it relates to fuel yard handling equipment.
- Experience in an industrial environment, with a willingness to take initiative and an understanding of the value of multi-tasking, teamwork, flexibility, and stewardship.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Valid driver's license that meets company standards.
- Ability to effectively meet respirator qualifications.
- Satisfactory results with respect to the background investigation pursuant to the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) requirements, if applicable.
- Ability and willingness to walk, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability and willingness to work outside in severe weather conditions.
- Ability to work frequent overtime and/or weekends on short notice.
- Willingness to work in an environment consisting of coal and various fuels, CCBs, heavy equipment, dust, heights, and a marine environment.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and use a respirator.
