As the Director of Student Accessibility and Educational Opportunity, you'll play a critical role in ensuring that our students with disabilities have the support they need to reach their full potential.

Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

The Director of Student Accessibility and Educational Opportunity will provide strategic leadership and oversight for all student-facing disability resource and accessibility efforts on VCU's Monroe Park Campus. This includes providing case management and accommodation support, overseeing the Assistive Technology Lab, and ensuring that all students have access to the resources they need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for student accessibility and educational opportunity initiatives
  • Supervise a team of professionals and student workers
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures related to accessibility and disability resources
  • Collaborate with university leadership, faculty, and staff to ensure that VCU is an accessible and inclusive environment for all students
  • Stay up-to-date on federal, state, and local legal updates related to accessibility and disability resources
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you'll need to have a Master's degree in higher education administration, special education, counseling, psychology, or a related field. You'll also need to have at least seven years of full-time, professional experience in postsecondary disability resources and accessibility, with at least three years in a progressive leadership position. You'll need to be able to work independently and as part of a team, and have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

A terminal degree in higher education administration, special education, counseling, psychology, or a related field is preferred. Additionally, a minimum of 10 years of full-time, professional experience in postsecondary disability resources and accessibility, with at least five years in a progressive leadership position, is also preferred.
