Academic Support for Student-Athletes

The Commonwealth of Virginia's VCU Athletics is seeking an experienced Academic Support Coordinator to guide student-athletes to educational success. The ideal candidate will provide academic support through developing study skills, academic goal setting, and utilizing academic resources. This role also serves as an administrative assistant to the Office of Student-Athlete Support Services.

Key Responsibilities

Provide instruction on study skills, time management, note-taking, and test-taking strategies
Assist student-athletes with academic support, including weekly meetings and monitoring academic progress
Work with student-athletes on major choice and career planning
Communicate with the Senior Executive Associate Athletic Director and the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support/Director of Student-Athlete Support Services regarding at-risk students
Provide student-athletes with information and assistance in the use of academic accommodations
Contribute to maintaining good working relationships with faculty, staff, and community resources

Requirements

Bachelor's degree
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
Thorough knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
Personal student-athlete collegiate experience
Ability to work evening and/or weekend hours as needed
Demonstrated experience working in a diverse environment or commitment to do as a staff member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree or training and work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree
Multilingual skills
Knowledge of academic advising in a culturally diverse university environment with student-athletes of varying academic levels
