Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Payroll Specialist to join our team at the California State Controller's Office. As a key member of our Personnel and Payroll Operations Bureau, you will serve as an expert resource and staff specialist, providing technical support and independently performing assignments involving a diverse range of tasks and situations related to personnel and payroll.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research and resolve complex and sensitive personnel and payroll problems for California State agencies and campuses, ensuring compliance with Federal and State laws, rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Exercise lead responsibilities, provide training, and review the work of less seasoned staff, ensuring cut-off dates are met and unit workloads are controlled.
  • Participate in meetings to improve personnel/payroll efficiencies on a statewide basis, provide technical expertise, and support in handling complex personnel/payroll documents and reports.
  • Provide information to the supervisor regarding unit operational needs, concerns, and improvements to existing policies and procedures.
  • Work on special projects involving new personnel/payroll processes or heavy/time-sensitive workloads affecting State agencies.
