About the JobDC Volunteer Lawyers Project (DCVLP) is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Bilingual Legal Advocate to join our team. As a key member of our Domestic Violence Program, you will provide high-quality representation in domestic violence and family law cases to survivors, with a focus on those who speak Spanish or have limited English proficiency.
About the RoleThis is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals. As a Bilingual Legal Advocate, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal services, including representation in court, brief advice at walk-in clinics, and collaboration with client advocates to ensure holistic and culturally specific service delivery. You will also develop guides and trainings for other attorneys and advocates to improve services offered to Spanish-speaking and limited English proficiency survivors.
About UsDCVLP is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that has been serving the District of Columbia since 2008. We engage, train, and support hundreds of dedicated volunteer attorneys each year to handle emergency protection orders, custody, child/spousal support, divorce, and immigration cases on behalf of victims. Our mission is to provide trauma-informed legal services that address the comprehensive needs of our clients. We operate free call-in and walk-in clinics throughout the District, offering a wide range of legal services and non-legal support services, including social services referrals, crisis support, and safety planning.
RequirementsTo be successful in this role, you will need to have a J.D. degree from an accredited law school, active DC Bar membership or eligibility to waive into the D.C. Bar, and a minimum of 1-3 years of legal experience. You must also possess professional working proficiency in Spanish and above, as well as excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop good working relationships with clients, staff, and partner organizations. Experience working with domestic violence victims and/or trauma survivors while providing these services in Spanish is strongly preferred.
What We OfferDCVLP offers a competitive salary range of $72,000 and a generous benefits package, including 90% employer-paid health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, a 403(b) retirement plan with a 4% employer contribution, a tax-free stipend for personal cell phone and Wi-Fi expenses, three weeks of vacation, three weeks of wellness leave, and 13 holidays. We also offer a generous family leave policy and eligibility to participate in the federal government's Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.
