Job Title: Fair Hearing Eligibility Specialist

Join the City of New York Inc. team as a Fair Hearing Eligibility Specialist and play a critical role in ensuring the fair and efficient administration of public benefits.

About the Role

The Fair Hearing Eligibility Specialist will be responsible for gathering information regarding clients' eligibility for public assistance programs, determining eligibility based on pertinent laws and regulations, and providing information to clients regarding their eligibility status.

Key Responsibilities
  • Gather information regarding clients' eligibility for public assistance programs
  • Determine eligibility based on pertinent laws and regulations
  • Provide information to clients regarding their eligibility status
  • Contact clients to discuss eligibility and resolve cases
  • Process extensions of medical coverage for clients entitled to Aid to Continue
  • Transmit withdrawal forms to clients who have voluntarily withdrawn their requests for a fair hearing
  • Maintain logs of contact with clients and prepare activity reports
Qualifications

To be considered for this role, applicants must have a satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to 60 semester credits at an accredited college or a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and two years of full-time satisfactory experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Interviewing, gathering information, and preparing necessary documentation for public assistance or unemployment benefits
  • Bookkeeping, bank teller duties, or customer service representative duties
  • Dealing with social service agencies or aiding individuals in solving housing, social, financial, or health problems
