Job Title: Attendance and Discipline Administrative Specialist

This is a promotional opportunity for current, contracted, classified, permanent staff in good standing. The Attendance and Discipline Administrative Specialist supports a Director, serving in both an administrative support and technical resource capacity for processes relating to student attendance and discipline.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Compose, schedule, and assist the Director in routine-to-sensitive and confidential correspondence with legal counsel, schools, parents, students, and parties.
  • Receive and/or perform quality assurance reviews of documentation, reports, and files related to formal hearings and proceedings as well as those that have legal implications relating to attendance, discipline, supervision, suspension, or expulsion.
  • Interpret and explain legislation, as well as district and board policies, on matters such as suspension, expulsion, and attendance, to administrators, staff, parents, and authorities.
  • Prepare Student Attendance Review Board (SARB) documents, agreements, and performance contracts. Set up case files and work with school sites to monitor student progress, following up on violations of SARB and other agreements.
  • Prepare Student Discipline Administrative Hearing documents and resulting formal and informal behavior agreements. Set up case files, prepare legal and confidential correspondence following legally required timelines regarding student behavior, and work with school sites to monitor student progress. Follow up on violations of behavior plans and ensure timelines and requirements are met for students to return to school.
  • Receive and review requests for intra- and inter-district transfers. Research school site and classroom capacity, merit of requests, and prepare recommendations to the Director. Communicate decisions to parents and school sites.
  • Provide administrative support and present information to committees related to student engagement, attendance, and discipline, with awareness to cultural issues and general student and family welfare.
  • Research, develop, implement, analyze, and maintain specialized records and reports as well as district-level databases for student discipline, student transfers, enrollment, and attendance information required by local and state programs.
  • Prepare and/or review Board of Education department agenda items to ensure compliance with legal requirements and inclusion of necessary exhibits and backup materials.
  • Monitor department budgets and initiate purchase requisitions and budget transfers.
Requirements:
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by college-level course work in business administration, communications, legal assistance, or related field and four years of increasingly responsible office or clerical experience involving public contact and record-keeping experience.
  • Self-certification of typing/keyboarding skills at a minimum of 45 words per minute.
