Position Overview

Role Summary:

The Family Support Specialist is responsible for fostering a strength-based partnership with parents and guardians involved in early childhood initiatives. Through comprehensive assessments and collaborative goal-setting, this role provides intentional and meaningful referrals to community resources while creating diverse engagement opportunities for parents and guardians. The specialist will be culturally responsive, addressing the unique needs of each family to ensure inclusive and comprehensive support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with a significant number of families each year.
  • Lead family engagement initiatives, including conducting interviews, assessments, and co-creating events with families, while connecting them to essential resources such as housing, healthcare, and employment.
  • Enhance the program's efforts to collaborate with community organizations to align resources that improve family outcomes.
  • Support families in transitioning their children to new educational settings through coordinated services and resources.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with administrative teams, school personnel, families, and community members.
  • Actively gather input on family needs and address barriers to learning and inclusion.
  • Work collaboratively with families and educational staff to design and implement tailored services.
  • Assist in forming a Parent Advisory Council by recruiting parent leaders and incorporating their feedback.
  • Utilize data to inform decisions on a case-by-case basis to enhance family outcomes.
  • Ensure timely submission of all required reports and documentation.
  • Prepare necessary documents for program audits and compliance.
  • Represent the organization at various community and educational events.

Compensation:

The position offers a competitive hourly wage and is classified as non-exempt, with options for full-time or part-time employment.

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in social work, education, public health, or equivalent experience in family engagement or community outreach is required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to build trust with diverse families. Excellent organizational skills and knowledge of local resources are necessary. Multilingual abilities are preferred.

Certifications:

  • Blood Borne Pathogen training.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications required within the initial days of employment.
  • Background clearance and health screenings as mandated.

Work Environment:

The Family Support Specialist will engage with families in various community settings, schools, and homes, requiring regular travel within the community. The role may involve evening and weekend work to accommodate family schedules.

Travel Requirements:

Local travel is expected, with occasional out-of-state travel for training or educational events.
