Educational Support Specialist (Assisting Grades 4-8; Focus on Literacy & Numeracy)

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum & Instruction:
  • Assist the lead educator in preparing the learning environment for effective instruction.
  • Support the educator in the preparation and distribution of instructional materials.
  • Provide direct instruction to students under the guidance of the classroom teacher.
  • Help maintain accurate records of student progress as needed.
  • Ensure the classroom remains organized and conducive to learning.
  • Utilize available resources to enhance learning activities within the classroom and the broader community.
  • Exhibit exemplary teaching techniques, fostering an atmosphere of respect and encouraging independent thought.
Classroom Management:
  • Collaborate with families to build trust in the educational process.
  • Guide students in developing harmonious relationships with peers.
  • Show genuine concern for students within a high-expectation environment.
  • Model responsible citizenship through personal actions.
  • Establish a classroom environment characterized by fairness, respect, and the promotion of responsible behavior.
Enrollment & Community Engagement:
  • Contribute to the promotion of the academy within the local community.
Professional Growth & Leadership:
  • Engage in the development of policies that influence instructional practices.
  • Foster professional relationships and participate in activities that support the academy's mission.
  • Uphold ethical standards in all professional interactions.
  • Demonstrate personal qualities that reflect positively on the individual and the institution.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as directed by leadership.
Learning Environment:
  • Maintain the orderliness and safety of the instructional space and equipment.
Job Objective: To provide dedicated assistance to educators and students, facilitating various instructional activities and fostering an inclusive learning atmosphere. The Educational Support Specialist aims to enhance student engagement and understanding by offering personalized support and reinforcing educational concepts. Through collaboration with teaching staff, the Specialist contributes to the overall academic development and success of students, ensuring a positive educational experience for all.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:
  • Completion of at least two years of higher education (equivalent to 60 semester hours); or possession of an associate's degree (or higher); or meeting a rigorous quality standard through a formal assessment.
  • Ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Effective communication skills with students, staff, and families.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated exemplary work habits from previous positions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or valid teaching certification.
  • Experience working with at-risk populations.
  • Prior experience in an educational setting with school-aged children.
