About the Role:
The Evening Youth Support Specialist (YSS) plays a crucial role in ensuring that children in residential care are both physically and emotionally secure. This position involves offering support, understanding, constructive feedback, and guidance to children who may display various challenges, including non-compliance, physical aggression, self-harming behaviors, or require assistance with daily living activities.

The YSS is tasked with delivering effective and therapeutic interventions to address the complex emotions and behaviors that necessitate residential placement. This role is essential in helping children and adolescents cultivate vital internal and external resources that promote healthier behaviors and emotional stability, aligned with individualized treatment plans established by program therapists.

Ideal Candidate Profile:
The perfect candidate will have a background in working with children and youth facing emotional and behavioral difficulties, with a strong preference for experience with developmentally disabled and cognitively impaired youth, including those on the autism spectrum. A high school diploma is required, with some college education in psychology, social work, sociology, youth and family studies, or a related field being advantageous.

Essential qualities include a positive attitude towards supervision, the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse individuals, and a commitment to representing the agency positively within the community. A valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and reliable transportation are necessary.

Furthermore, candidates should demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to the socioeconomic backgrounds of clients, possess personal warmth, and have the ability to build meaningful relationships across various cultures. Strong decision-making skills, effective communication abilities, and good organizational capabilities are critical. Proficiency in computer usage and keyboarding skills, along with a high tolerance for frustration, assertiveness, and self-direction, are also required.
