Job Overview

**Leading organization** in the consumer goods manufacturing and packaging industry is seeking skilled Controls Technicians for their operations.

Position Summary:

The Controls Technician will act as the key authority on all manufacturing equipment control systems, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), along with associated process instrumentation such as pressure, flow, temperature, and I/P analog applications. This role encompasses troubleshooting, designing, and implementing document control solutions for manufacturing equipment and processes, serving as a liaison for both internal and external resources, and being available for on-call responsibilities.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Adopt a hands-on approach, concentrating on optimizing and improving existing processes rather than engaging in desk work.
  • Diagnose control issues related to Allen Bradley PLCs utilizing ladder logic and Control View HMI.
  • Develop ad-hoc PLC ladder code modifications using Rockwell RS Logix software (preferably 5000).
  • Possess familiarity with A/B PLC processors (CompactLogix and ControlLogix preferred) and related input/output modules and Device Net.
  • Support Continuous Improvement Initiatives and Teams.
  • Employ AutoCAD for reviewing, developing, and maintaining electrical schematics and equipment layout diagrams.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance, Engineering, IT, and Operations to improve equipment functionality, throughput, and uptime.
  • Establish training programs to enhance maintenance staff's troubleshooting capabilities on electrical, instrumentation, and control system equipment.
  • Document control system and equipment configuration changes, ensuring documentation is current and accessible.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and system management of PLC systems, including program backups, UPS systems, firmware/software updates, configurable parameter documentation, control cabinet/wiring termination management, I/O commissioning, and instrumentation calibration.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Industrial Technology, Electromechanical Technology, or Engineering Technology.
  • 2-3 years of experience with control systems, particularly focusing on Allen Bradley PLC controls in a manufacturing environment, including troubleshooting, process enhancement, instrumentation calibration, and preventive maintenance on electrical systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Experience in diagnosing Allen Bradley (A/B) PLC control issues using ladder logic and Control View HMI.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize projects effectively, and communicate clearly with colleagues, management, contractors, and vendors.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
