Position Overview:

The Automation Controls Engineer plays a crucial role in the design and implementation of systems tailored for manufacturing processes. This role involves close collaboration with various departments and leadership to assess current automation capabilities and identify future opportunities. You will be responsible for creating comprehensive project roadmaps for automation initiatives that align with our organizational goals. Furthermore, the engineer will focus on enhancing production efficiency by analyzing performance metrics and proposing actionable improvements. Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills are essential for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Electrical Engineering:
  • Interpret and update electrical wiring diagrams using AutoCAD/SolidWorks.
  • Develop electrical schematics and designs in AutoCAD.
  • Analyze mechanical design drawings to determine electrical requirements.
  • Research and evaluate supplier products for assembly components.
  • Adhere to established standards for drawings and component selections.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of new standards.
  • Interpret and create electrical bills of materials.
  • Utilize hand tools and multi-meters to work safely within electrical panels.
  • Power up electrical systems and configure hardware according to application specifications.
  • Ensure quality control of assembly work and address inquiries during the assembly process.
  • Collaborate with Sales Engineers to provide insights for quote preparation as needed.
  • Verify quality during project implementation and respond to related inquiries.
  • Demonstrate understanding of fundamental electrical principles such as Ohm's Law and Watt's Law.
  • Software Development:
  • Design and program PLC code based on specified requirements.
  • Understand internal customer needs for GUI/communication interfaces and networking, creating specifications accordingly.
  • Review, repair, and redesign legacy code as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot issues with existing systems installed by the company.
  • Draft user manuals to explain the functionality of developed programs.
  • Possess basic knowledge of PC networking and Boolean Logic.
  • Interpret PLC Ladder Logic effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Controls/Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the automation sector.
  • Proficient in design and drafting tools such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Experience with Programming Logic Controllers (PLC), including brands like Allen-Bradley and Siemens.
  • Skilled in configuring and designing HMI/OIT systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot control system issues effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and positive team player.
  • Creative thinker with a results-oriented mindset, attentive to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines.

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and general computer skills.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as UL and CE.
  • Knowledge of Vision Systems and various Motion Controllers.
  • Experience with industrial robotic applications.
