Position Overview
The Operational Excellence Manager plays a pivotal role in directing and managing the Continuous Improvement and Process Improvement teams to foster operational excellence. This position is tasked with initiating and steering Lean and Six Sigma projects aimed at enhancing performance across critical metrics through the application of DMAIC and Lean principles. You will lead significant process enhancement and cost reduction initiatives to achieve financial outcomes within designated timelines. Additionally, you will assess current operations to uncover new project opportunities and financial advantages, identify key drivers to fulfill business goals, and monitor, track, and report on the progress of improvement activities. Your ability to pinpoint inefficiencies and develop actionable proposals and execution plans for improvement projects is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, establish, and implement the Operational Excellence program, encompassing disciplines such as lean transformation and Six Sigma (DMAIC).
  • Drive initiatives to enhance performance across various key metrics including Supply, Cost, Quality, and Safety.
  • Strive for process excellence through value stream improvement plans and enhancement of essential plant business processes.
  • Analyze critical Operational Excellence-related metrics associated with the plant Scorecard and conduct periodic reviews to assess results and formulate action plans to address operational gaps.
  • Collaborate with site leaders to create Continuous Improvement plans and partner with them for ongoing prioritization and progress tracking.
  • Continuously enhance the capabilities of the Operational Excellence organization through ongoing development activities and identification of key talent.
  • Adhere to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and plant policies/guidelines.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned or required.

  • Demonstrated urgency and sound judgment in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging a diverse audience from staff to executive levels.
  • Ability to formulate and implement strategic plans through influence, education, and training.
  • Capacity to work independently and make informed decisions often with limited information.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and challenging the status quo.
  • Open to innovative approaches with a proven track record of local implementation.
  • Proficient in computer applications including Microsoft Office, Excel, and Access, with demonstrated experience in leadership, project management, and problem-solving.

Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in Operations, Engineering, or project leadership is required; 7 years is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in leading direct reports or managing projects is preferred.
  • A background in Continuous Improvement is preferred.
  • Certification as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt is required.
  • Ideal candidates will have experience in the Pharmaceutical or Medical Device sectors.

Work Environment

  • Primarily office-based work environment.
  • Occasional work in a clean room setting.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs unassisted.
  • Travel requirements are typically less than 25% of the time.
