Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Front and Back Office Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Clinic Manager by ensuring smooth patient flow and high-quality care during operational hours. This position is integral to a collaborative healthcare team, which includes physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, patient service representatives, medical records staff, health educators, and social workers, all dedicated to delivering holistic care in a respectful environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide essential support to the medical assistant team, executing all standard medical assistant duties.
  2. Facilitate patient intake, financial assessments, and preparation for appointments.
  3. Assist in training medical and laboratory assistants, as well as volunteers, in health education and laboratory procedures, while offering ongoing supervision.
  4. Manage tasks such as medication refill requests, specialty referrals, and pre/post-visit chart reviews as needed.
  5. Review patient charts, lab results, and encounter forms for accuracy and follow-up requirements.
  6. Collaborate with the Clinic Manager to oversee inventory logs and storage, ensuring quality assurance.
  7. Coordinate the inventory management, ordering, and maintenance of medical supplies.
  8. Provide coverage for other medical assistants during sick or vacation leave.
  9. Participate in daily and monthly quality assurance evaluations, including emergency kit checks.
  10. Maintain records of refrigerator and freezer temperature logs.
  11. Order vaccines as required.

Additional Duties:

As directed by the Clinic Manager, perform other related tasks to support organizational goals.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a medical assistant training program is required.
  • CPR Certification from the American Heart Association is mandatory.
  • Phlebotomy certification is advantageous.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in an outpatient medical clinic or similar environment is preferred.

  • Capability to perform phlebotomy and basic laboratory tasks.
  • Understanding of age-appropriate care principles.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods and perform tasks on a computer.
  • Capability to push and pull objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Frequent hand and finger dexterity for fine motor tasks.
  • Ability to perform light to moderate physical work.

Work Schedule:

Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, with varying start times between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM, and end times between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Occasional Saturday work may be required, and travel to various clinics may be necessary for meetings or assignments.
