Visual Communication Specialist

As a Visual Communication Specialist, you will be responsible for executing a comprehensive range of graphic design and print reproduction tasks. Your role will involve creating high-quality publication materials utilizing industry-standard graphic design software and various reprographic equipment, while ensuring exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
The following duties are typical for this role:
1. Execute a full spectrum of graphic design responsibilities, including art direction, creative strategy, design, pre-press production, post-production, quality assurance, and print reproduction for all requested materials.
2. Organize and manage graphic arts projects; design and produce publication-quality materials; effectively write and edit existing publications; create layouts for brochures, newsletters, forms, business cards, reports, digital advertisements, and more using industry-standard graphic design software.
3. Consult with clients and provide technical guidance and training on graphic services to ensure satisfaction with the final product.
4. Assess the necessary time, materials, and personnel for large projects; determine whether jobs should be completed in-house or outsourced, and obtain vendor bids when necessary.
5. Operate various reprographic equipment, including computers, printers, and digital cameras, ensuring quality control of all printed materials to maintain a consistent appearance and format.
6. Stay updated with the latest graphic design software and production techniques; research and implement new software versions and develop cross-application templates.
7. Maintain accurate records and files of completed projects.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Knowledge of graphic design principles, including typography, color theory, and layout techniques.
- Proficiency in industry-standard graphic design software (Adobe Suite).
- Understanding of pre-press and printing operations, including color separations and related techniques.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
Education and Experience
A combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and skills is required. Typically, this includes:
- Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by college-level coursework in graphic design or a related field.
- A minimum of three years of experience in developing graphic materials for visual communication.
Work Environment
This position is primarily performed in an office and print shop setting, with exposure to noise, dust, and ink. The role requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods and perform physical tasks related to the operation of reprographic equipment.
