POSITION OVERVIEW


The Housing Support Specialist will deliver trauma-informed, client-centered case management services to individuals facing homelessness, aiming to facilitate their swift and effective access to stable housing solutions.

The responsibilities include engaging with individuals in our Resource Centers and linking them to community resources that will support their housing transition.

The Housing Support Specialist will collaborate with the shelter team to identify common challenges encountered by individuals in shelter and assist in developing strategies and procedures to address these needs on a broader scale.

Job Summary


The Housing Support Specialist will provide case management services that are informed by trauma and driven by client needs to individuals experiencing homelessness, with the objective of helping them secure stable housing solutions promptly and effectively.

The services offered include identifying and engaging with individuals in our Resource Centers and connecting them with community resources that will facilitate their transition into housing.

The Housing Support Specialist will work alongside the shelter team to pinpoint common barriers faced by individuals in the shelter and aid in establishing strategies and procedures to address client needs throughout the facility.

Responsibilities

You will:
Provide assistance to families experiencing homelessness in an emergency shelter.

Help guests identify barriers and connect them with suitable community resources.

Maintain a strong belief in the Housing First model.

Engage and encourage housing discussions with guests.

Manage a designated caseload.

You will:
Support our diverse population of guests on your assigned caseload to set and achieve goals.

Assist families in securing housing and addressing barriers to housing.

Focus on housing and strengths-based practices to meet the unique needs of each client.

Assess family needs to provide appropriate community referrals.

Collaborate daily with all departments to foster a healthy team environment.

Seek out, engage, and network with community partners to discover housing options and additional resources.

Participate in weekly team meetings and contribute to case conferencing discussions.

Maintain accurate records, case management notes, and statistical data as required and engage in special projects as needed.

You will:


Deliver direct, trauma-informed case management services to clients, including ongoing assessments, goal setting, and creative problem-solving, utilizing a network of community resources.

Demonstrate the ability to accept guidance and constructive feedback from your Supervisor.

Promoting Best Practices

You must:
Exhibit awareness and a desire to understand diverse populations.

Contribute to the Agency's commitment to enhancing awareness and appreciation of diverse ethnic and cultural heritages.


Be willing to embrace the Housing First approach, harm reduction, and low-barrier access to resources as best practices essential to our mission at The Road Home.

Demonstrate the ability to set and maintain healthy boundaries, guided by Trauma-Informed Care principles.

Other duties as assigned.

Pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Lived, work, or volunteer experience preferred or a degree in a related field.

Experience working or volunteering with diverse populations.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse populations, contributing to the agency's commitment to enhancing awareness and appreciation of diverse ethnic and cultural heritages.
  • Excellent writing and documentation skills.
  • Willingness to be a proactive team member.
  • Ability to work from a Trauma-Informed Care framework.
  • Familiarity with the Housing First philosophy.
  • Ability to collaborate with community partners.
  • Self-starter and self-directed.
  • Ability to accept direction from Supervisor.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong computer proficiency.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
Physical and Equipment Requirements

Ability to lift 25 pounds.

Able to walk and stand for at least an hour at a time.

Licensed and able to drive a vehicle.
