POSITION OVERVIEW


The Housing Support Specialist will deliver trauma-informed, client-centered case management services to individuals facing homelessness, aiming to facilitate swift and effective stable housing solutions.

The role involves engaging with individuals in our Resource Centers and linking them to community resources that support their housing transition.

As part of the shelter team, the Housing Support Specialist will identify common challenges encountered by individuals in shelter and assist in developing strategies and procedures to address these needs on a broader scale.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Implementing a Housing First Approach

Your Responsibilities:
Assist individuals experiencing homelessness in securing housing.

Support clients in identifying obstacles and connecting them with suitable community resources. Celebrate and assist clients as they transition into their new homes.

Utilize agency vehicles to transport clients in their housing search.

Maintain a strong belief in the Housing First model and engage in ongoing discussions with clients about housing options.

Case Load Management

Your Responsibilities:
Assist a diverse clientele on your assigned caseload in establishing achievable goals.

Engage with all clients to connect them with resources and housing alternatives.

Adhere to agency guidelines to maintain healthy boundaries with clients.

Collaborate daily with all departments to foster a supportive team environment.

Proactively seek, engage, and network with community partners to identify housing options and additional resources.


Participate in daily open office hours as a team to provide clients with resources to further their housing objectives.

Attend weekly team meetings and contribute to case discussions.

Maintain accurate records, case management notes, and statistical data as required and participate in special projects as necessary.

Crisis Management

Your Responsibilities:


Deliver direct, trauma-informed case management services to clients, including crisis intervention, harm reduction, outreach, ongoing assessments, goal setting, and creative problem-solving using a network of community resources.

Utilize provided training to effectively address high-stress situations in a trauma-informed manner.

Assist with de-escalation and crisis intervention for clients in distress.

Collaborate with crisis clinicians and others to support individuals facing mental and behavioral health challenges.

  • Ability to accept guidance and constructive feedback from supervisors.
Ability to establish and maintain appropriate boundaries, employing Trauma-Informed Care principles.

You Must:
Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to diverse populations.

Contribute to the Agency's commitment to enhancing understanding and appreciation of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
Experience working with diverse and vulnerable populations is preferred.

Lived, work, or volunteer experience preferred OR a degree in a related field.

*Bilingual Spanish speaking is a plus.

Physical and Equipment Requirements:

Ability to lift 25 pounds.
Ability to stand and walk for at least an hour at a time.
Valid driver's license and ability to drive a vehicle.
