Position Summary

The Grants Accountant will report directly to the Accounting Manager and will play a crucial role in the development and oversight of the organization's annual budget, as well as the budgets for various funding sources. This position will also involve crafting budgets for new proposals and managing all contracts and grants, acting as a liaison among program staff, accounting personnel, and funders. The Grants Accountant will provide guidance to Program Directors regarding financial and programmatic outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget and funder budgets.
  • Manage contracts and grants, ensuring compliance and effective communication between stakeholders.
  • Support month-end and fiscal year-end closing processes and conduct financial analysis for both public and private grants.
  • Collaborate with program directors to ensure accurate budget management and financial reporting.
  • Conduct thorough analyses of grant performance and provide insights for improvement.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a nonprofit setting.
  • Proficiency in accounting and financial reporting systems.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as they pertain to nonprofits.
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel capabilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work independently.
  • Experience with HUD grants is preferred.
  • Valid California Driver License and acceptable driving record.
Essential Skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with government contracting officers to clarify financial requirements.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of contracts and reporting obligations.
  • Perform monthly financial analyses and prepare necessary reports for stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and organizational policies.
Physical Requirements
