Pay Range: $87,000-$97,000 annualized

Position Summary: We are in search of a highly qualified and experienced Senior Accountant. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in the nonprofit sector, showcasing exceptional technical abilities, sound judgment, and execution. This role is crucial for managing daily accounting operations and addressing inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders. Familiarity with Abila MIP is highly preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Accounting: Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure timely completion of month-end closings, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, supported by appropriate documentation.
  • Oversee the reconciliation of bank statements and manage the month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations for Balance Sheet accounts.
  • Generate monthly and year-end journal entries, ensuring proper documentation and a solid audit trail.
  • Review and analyze general ledger transactions to confirm accurate recording of financial activities.
  • Assist in creating financial reports for internal stakeholders and external parties, including donors and auditors.
  • Support the coordination of annual external audits and tax preparation.
  • Contribute to annual financial, workers' compensation, and 401k audits and reports.
  • Analyze financial data to provide insights and recommendations for enhancing the organization's financial performance.
  • Conduct monthly operational analyses, focusing on expenditures, revenue, and program cost metrics.
  • Utilize advanced Excel skills to develop complex financial models and streamline accounting processes.
  • Assist in the preparation and reporting of agency and program budgets.
  • Perform ad hoc analyses and reporting as needed.

Grant and Fund Management:
  • Manage grants and funding, including tracking expenses, ensuring compliance with grant requirements, and preparing financial reports for funders.
  • Prepare contract billing, audit schedules, and funders' reports.

Team Leadership:
  • Provide oversight and mentorship to the accounting team, ensuring high-quality work.
  • Understand the full scope of accounting functions and provide backup as necessary.
  • Participate in or lead special projects as opportunities arise.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • BA or BS in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in the nonprofit sector.
  • Experience in the healthcare field, particularly in revenue cycle management, is strongly preferred.
  • Completion of background checks is a requirement for employment.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle are essential.
  • Occasional local travel may be required.
  • A passion for the mission of The Ladders is essential.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting.
  • Familiarity with unrestricted and restricted funding sources.
  • Experience with Abila MIP accounting software is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Physical Requirements: This position requires continual sitting, typing, and repetitive computer use for extended periods. The role also involves frequent communication with others, necessitating clear hearing and speaking abilities. Occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds may be required.
