Position Summary: We are in search of a highly qualified Senior Accountant with extensive experience in the nonprofit sector. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional technical expertise, sound judgment, and a proven track record in executing accounting functions. This role is pivotal in managing daily accounting operations and addressing inquiries from various stakeholders. Familiarity with Abila MIP is highly desirable.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Accounting: Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure timely completion of month-end closing processes, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements with appropriate documentation.
- Oversee bank statement reconciliations and manage month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations for Balance Sheet accounts.
- Generate monthly and year-end journal entries, ensuring proper documentation and a clear audit trail.
- Review and reconcile general ledger transactions to guarantee accurate financial recording.
- Assist in preparing financial reports for internal stakeholders and external parties, including donors and auditors.
- Support the coordination of annual external audits and tax preparation processes.
- Contribute to annual financial, workers' compensation, and 401k audits and reports.
- Analyze financial data to provide insights for enhancing the organization's financial performance.
- Conduct monthly operational analyses, focusing on expenditures, revenue, and program cost metrics.
- Utilize advanced Excel skills to develop complex financial models and streamline accounting processes.
- Assist in the preparation and reporting of agency and program budgets.
- Perform ad hoc analysis and reporting as required.
Grant and Fund Management:
- Manage grants and funding, ensuring compliance with requirements and preparing financial reports for funders.
- Prepare contract billing, audit schedules, and cost allocations.
Team Leadership:
- Provide oversight and mentorship to the accounting team, ensuring high-quality work.
- Understand the full scope of accounting functions and provide backup as necessary.
- Engage in special projects as opportunities arise.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- BA or BS in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in the nonprofit sector.
- Experience in the healthcare field, particularly in revenue cycle management, is preferred.
- Background checks are conducted on all candidates who receive a conditional job offer.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle are essential.
- Occasional local travel may be required.
- A strong passion for the mission of The Ladders is essential.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
- Proficiency in Abila MIP accounting software is strongly preferred.
- Excellent computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Physical Requirements: The role requires prolonged periods of sitting and computer use, as well as effective communication with colleagues. Occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds may be necessary.
