Job Overview

This position is classified as a Peace Officer role. To qualify, candidates must satisfy the minimum requirements set forth by the Department of Human Resources and either be currently eligible or eligible for reinstatement as a PC 830.2, California State Peace Officer.

Applicants who are not current peace officers and do not possess a POST – Academy, Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced Certificate are not eligible for this role.

Position Details

The State Park Peace Officer Supervisor I (Lifeguard) will be based in the Monterey District Office. The individual will operate under the general oversight of the State Park Superintendent III.

The responsibilities include overseeing the Districtwide Law Enforcement and Aquatic Safety initiatives. The incumbent may also assist with Visitor Services Program support, which encompasses public safety for special events, fuel reduction efforts, and lifeguard operations. A successful candidate will exhibit strong leadership capabilities within the community, collaborating effectively with allied agencies and District management.

The role demands a high level of independence and the ability to foster multidisciplinary cooperation among all Department and District personnel to achieve organizational objectives.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include:

  • Completion of a California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) accredited Basic Training Law Enforcement Academy.
  • Possession of a valid Red Cross Advanced First-Aid Certificate or a valid First Responder Certificate.
  • A valid Red Cross or American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate.
  • A valid Class C driver's license.

It is essential to address the driver's license inquiries in the application, providing details such as the driver's license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements or restrictions.

This position is not eligible for telework.

Additional Requirements

  • Completion of educational courses as outlined in the Class Specification.
  • Successful completion of a Drug Screening prior to employment.
  • Clearance of a Background Investigation before hiring.
  • Medical Clearance prior to employment.
  • Psychological Evaluation clearance prior to employment.
  • Possession of a POST BASIC, INTERMEDIATE, or ADVANCED Certificate, with a copy required prior to hiring.
