Job Description and Duties

This is a Peace Officer Position. To be eligible, you must meet the minimum qualifications established by the Department of Human Resources AND either be currently eligible or eligible for reinstatement as a PC 830.2, California State Peace Officer.

If you are not a current peace officer and in possession of a POST – Academy, Basic, Intermediate or Advanced Certificate, you are not eligible for this position.

The State Park Superintendent III (Chief Ranger) will perform duties related to the Districtwide Law Enforcement and Aquatic Safety programs. The incumbent may provide Visitor Services Program support, including but not limited to public safety support to special events, fuel reduction, and cannabis programs.

A successful candidate will demonstrate effective leadership in the community, with allied agencies and with District managers. The Chief Ranger is expected to work with a high degree of independence and is expected to model multidisciplinary cooperation with all Department and District staff in meeting Department and District goals.

This position will be the Public Safety manager for the District.

This position is designated as not telework eligible.
