Position Overview
GEICO is on the lookout for a seasoned Engineer who is enthusiastic about developing high-efficiency, low-maintenance, and uninterrupted platforms and applications. You will play a pivotal role in transforming our insurance operations as we evolve from a conventional IT framework to a technology-driven organization focused on engineering excellence, while fostering a culture of psychological safety and ongoing enhancement.

Role Description
The Principal Engineer serves as a key figure within the engineering team, collaborating across the organization to ensure a seamless experience for our clients while upholding the highest standards of security and availability. Our team excels in delivering top-notch technology products and services in a rapidly changing environment where priorities can shift swiftly. The ideal candidate possesses extensive technical expertise, spanning from front-end interfaces to back-end systems and everything in between.

Key Responsibilities
As a Principal Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

• Leading multiple initiatives and providing guidance to engineering teams.

• Overseeing the complete solution throughout its entire lifecycle.

• Collaborating with product managers, team members, clients, and other engineering teams to devise solutions for complex challenges in developing enterprise-level business applications.

• Ensuring the quality, usability, and performance of the solutions.

• Facilitating design discussions and code evaluations to enhance the quality of engineering across the organization.

• Utilizing programming languages such as Java, Python, SQL, and NoSQL databases, along with Container Orchestration services like Docker and Kubernetes, and various Azure tools and services.

• Mentoring junior team members to help them achieve their full potential.

• Regularly sharing best practices and refining processes within and across teams.

Qualifications
• Proficiency in at least two modern programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or C#, with a focus on object-oriented design.

• Experience in developing products using microservices architecture and extensible REST APIs.

• Background in architecture and design, including design patterns, reliability, and scalability of both new and existing systems.

• Familiarity with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code practices.

• Knowledge of DevOps principles, Cloud Architecture, and the Azure DevOps Operational Framework.

• Experience with existing Operational Portals such as Azure Portal.

• Proficiency in application monitoring tools and performance evaluations.

• Understanding of Datacenter structures, capabilities, and offerings, particularly the Azure platform and its native services.

• Strong grasp of computer science data structures and algorithms.

• Excellent problem-solving skills.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.

• Familiarity with developer tools throughout the software development lifecycle (task management, source control, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication).

• Experience with PowerShell scripting (preferred).

• Knowledge of Azure Networking (Subscription, Security zoning, etc.) (preferred).

• Understanding of security protocols and products, including Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, and OAuth (preferred).

Experience
• Over 6 years of professional software development experience within a Java framework (J2EE, web containers, and Java).

• At least 4 years of experience with open-source frameworks.

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in architecture and design.

• At least 3 years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service.

Education
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience.

Annual Salary
$72,236,500.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
