Job Overview

WSP is embarking on a search for a Senior Project Accountant.

This role involves providing expert accounting and financial support to project managers and teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing project work breakdown structures, budgets, and margin analyses, while also managing funding processes in Oracle for complex projects. Key responsibilities include evaluating project expenses, executing cost transfers, and ensuring the accuracy of project data in Oracle. Additionally, the role requires generating comprehensive project accounting reports for various sectors, including infrastructure and professional services, and collaborating with project leadership to implement corrective strategies for any identified issues.

Your Contributions
  • Oversee and analyze the collection, recording, and allocation of project costs and revenues, ensuring precise profit and loss calculations while communicating financial performance to management.
  • Manage the complete lifecycle of project accounting, from account creation in Oracle to project tracking, invoicing validation, and overall reconciliation of project finances.
  • Conduct detailed accounting tasks related to project contracts, billing events, and revenue management for multifaceted projects.
  • Collaborate with project managers to establish and update project budgets, providing recommendations as necessary when modifications arise.
  • Create financial reports and visualizations, ensuring accurate data presentation and analysis on labor costs and other financial metrics for management review.
  • Monitor revenue and unbilled balances to guarantee proper revenue recognition.
  • Authorize access to project accounts and manage expense transfers in compliance with accounting standards.
  • Maintain quality control over project financial records using Oracle and other software tools.
  • Apply accounting expertise to investigate project variances and submit reports to management.
  • Review contract and change order details for complex projects, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Identify and manage key indicators for addressing problematic projects, keeping management informed of any concerns.
  • Ensure accuracy in draft invoices, coordinating with project managers for approvals before submission to clients.
  • Oversee subcontractor management, including invoice evaluations and payment requests.
  • Track unpaid billings and follow up on outstanding accounts receivable.
  • Respond to client inquiries regarding project expenses and billing details.
  • Participate in project meetings to update the team on financial statuses and action items.
  • Prepare government reports related to project activities.
  • Compile information for audits and respond to auditor requests as necessary.
  • Collaborate with finance teams to execute project-related tasks effectively.
  • Adhere to regulatory requirements regarding data integrity and documentation.
  • Engage professionally with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Mentor junior accountants and interns, ensuring quality assurance in billing and budgeting processes.
  • Stay updated on project accounting principles and best practices.
  • Exercise ethical decision-making in financial matters, adhering to company policies.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Qualifications

Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in accounting and project management.
  • Strong knowledge of project accounting principles and their application.
  • Ability to perform technical calculations and understand contract stipulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and lead junior team members.
  • Proficient in accounting software and MS Excel.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company policies.
  • Willingness to travel as needed for project requirements.
Preferred
  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Familiarity with Oracle software.
