The Orthopedic Physician Assistant (PA) plays a crucial role in delivering comprehensive medical and surgical care to patients within the orthopedic department. Under the guidance of the Attending Physician, the PA is responsible for evaluating and managing patients in both inpatient and outpatient environments. This position involves performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures while ensuring effective communication with the supervising physician to uphold high standards of patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Effective Communication
* Exhibits a thorough understanding of medical terminology and procedures.
Engages in consultations with healthcare professionals, including supervising physicians and specialists, to coordinate patient care.
Patient Management
* Works collaboratively with healthcare teams to deliver comprehensive care throughout the patient’s treatment journey. Demonstrates proficiency in assessing patient data and interpreting it according to age-specific requirements.
Conducts patient evaluations, including detailed health histories and physical examinations, and formulates comprehensive assessments. Responsible for documenting all patient interactions and care provided in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Assists in medical procedures under the supervision of the attending physician and is prepared to initiate emergency interventions as necessary.
Coordinates referrals, prepares patients for surgical procedures, and serves as a first or second assistant in the operating room.
Develops discharge plans for patients following surgical interventions.
Clinical Development
* Actively participates in initiatives aimed at performance improvement and policy formulation. Engages in quality assurance programs and healthcare quality committees.
Compliance and Safety
* Responsible for reporting incidents related to safety and ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and organizational policies.
Qualifications
Education
Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program recognized by the Accreditation Review Commission for the Physician Assistant. National certification as a Physician Assistant is required.
Certifications & Licenses
Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). State licensure as a Physician Assistant is mandatory. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification are required for hospital settings. A Fingerprint Clearance Card is also necessary.
Experience
Candidates should possess a solid understanding of computer systems and basic software applications due to the integration of technology in patient care.
