About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Technical Program Manager to lead our Hardware Engineering team in the development of cutting-edge cloud servers. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for defining and executing processes that deliver both savings and productivity for Amazon.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage large, complex technology initiatives, delivering critical solutions, significant improvements, new mechanisms, or deprecating systems that are no longer needed.
  • Successfully manage all stages (from concept to delivery) of hardware product development programs in a highly cross-functional environment.
  • Work closely with customers to understand their short and long-term business goals and product needs.
  • Drive and coordinate the efforts of an interdisciplinary team across hardware design, component development, firmware, test, and qualification, along with external suppliers and design partners.
  • Develop and deploy at scale, and provide ongoing operational support for the servers you deliver.
  • Actively involved in the sustaining operational health of the platforms you support.
  • Understand the architecture of the systems you work with (e.g., workflows, APIs, runtime characteristics, design limitations, and maintenance requirements).
  • Influence team technical priorities and business strategy through data-driven contributions.
  • Communicate ideas effectively, verbally and in writing, to a wide range of audiences including Directors and VPs.
  • Foster a constructive dialogue, harmonize discordant views, and lead the resolution of contentious issues (build consensus).
  • Partner successfully with customers, stakeholders, and engineering teams.
  • Define clear goals and objectives.
  • Drive crisp decisions in your program area about what projects move forward and in what priority order.
  • Proactively identify risks and bring them to the attention of your team and stakeholders with plans for mitigation before they become roadblocks.
  • Judiciously add, refine, and remove procedures.
  • Apply project management best practices to increase the productivity and effectiveness of the teams you work with.

AWS Outposts is an on-premises version of AWS public cloud. We are a start-up-like team within a big enterprise, allowing us to take risks and experiment, allow team members to flex their technical muscles and grow in their respective careers, and a unique opportunity to be part of the product's growth story.

Requirements
  • 5+ years of technical product or program management experience.
  • 7+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience.
  • 3+ years of software development experience.
  • 5+ years of technical program management working directly with software engineering teams experience.
  • Experience managing programs across cross-functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules.
  • 5+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience.
  • Experience managing projects across cross-functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules.
  • Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership.
  • Experienced in overseeing and reviewing operational excellence metrics for projects post-launch.
  • Experience managing the lifecycle of a complex cross-functional program with considerable business impact.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking in complex situations; experience working in cross-functional groups including mechanical engineering, test, reliability, failure analysis.
  • Experienced in identifying and mitigating supply chain constraints.
  • Knowledge of compute and storage server architecture and design for large scale applications.
  • Experience in working with overseas CM/OEM/ODM/IHV vendors in product development.
  • Experience with server technologies such as: power optimization, board design, thermal, mechanical, BIOS, BMC, signal integrity, networking.
  • Experienced in gathering system requirements and working with support teams to aid in the creation of server specifications.
  • Inquisitive with technical and business skills to understand, test, and challenge while working harmoniously with the business and technology owners.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage technology providers in the industry to track and apply emerging technologies to innovative server designs.
  • A strong track record of executing in dynamic and fast-paced environments. Highly experienced with data-driven decision making.
  • Experienced maintaining high level of data security when working with external partners and customers by driving customer engagement plans through proper legal team workstreams.
  • Comfortable working on multiple programs at once.
