Job Overview

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled machinist with expertise in programming, setting up, and operating CNC Lathe machines. The primary responsibility is to manufacture production components adhering to specified tolerances and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

Programming, Setup, and Operation - 80%

  • Develops intricate programs both directly on the machine and using CAD/CAM software.
  • Designs and fabricates specialized fixtures for various machining tasks as needed.
  • Interprets blueprints, job travelers, work instructions, and quality documentation to ensure accuracy in processes.
  • Sets up production equipment according to technical drawings and specifications.
  • Selects, aligns, and securely mounts holding fixtures, cutting tools, and other necessary components on machines based on work instructions.
  • Utilizes mathematical skills and measuring instruments to determine dimensions and tolerances.
  • Identifies issues or deviations in machining; adjusts machine controls to rectify errors.
  • Conducts inspections and measurements of finished products to detect defects resulting from machine setup.

Safety and Maintenance - 10%

  • Responsible for routine maintenance of machinery and maintaining a tidy work environment.
  • Ensures safe handling of materials using equipment such as cranes and carts.
  • Adheres to all safety protocols, including those related to machine operation and safety guarding.

Reporting and Administrative Duties - 5%

  • Keeps accurate records of work orders, production quantities, and quality assessments.
  • Follows work order instructions and demonstrates proficiency in blueprint reading and geometric tolerances.
  • Engages in miscellaneous tasks and training as directed by a supervisor.

Additional Responsibilities - 5%

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Associate degree in Manufacturing/Technical Programming or completion of a full apprenticeship program is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of experience as a qualified machinist is required.

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Proficient in interpreting blueprints, job travelers, and quality documents.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam and SolidWorks.
  • Experience with inspection tools.
  • Strong mathematical abilities, including algebra and geometry.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of work holding, cutting tools, and shop supplies.
  • Ability to plan, program, set up, and operate production based on engineering specifications.
  • Capability to follow quality plans and utilize inspection tools effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to foster effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong time management skills.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of material properties and processing techniques.
  • Experience with hard milling processes.
  • Familiarity with Renishaw Inspection Plus software.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, stoop, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Capability to operate and maintain machinery, requiring prolonged periods of standing and movement.
  • All ergonomic tasks must be performed safely without risk of injury.
