JOB SUMMARY

The main objective of this role is to manage machining activities and direct personnel towards effective workflow, quality assurance, and timely project completion. This position is committed to ensuring that all machining processes are executed in alignment with the company's quality and productivity targets, while prioritizing safety at all times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Supervisory Responsibilities (60%)

  • Oversees and organizes departmental schedules and tasks.
  • Ensures the department is adequately staffed to achieve objectives.
  • Assists in the preparation of departmental budgets.
  • Maintains accurate production and employee records.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies and safety regulations among staff.
  • Collaborates with senior management to address employee concerns or issues.
  • Works with team leads to coordinate daily production activities.
  • Facilitates problem-solving, offering suggestions and guidance to staff.
  • Ensures accuracy of weekly product line status reports; presents findings in weekly meetings.
  • Conducts performance management, including annual reviews and daily performance monitoring; implements corrective actions as necessary.
  • Promotes employee safety by ensuring proper use of tools and equipment.
  • Fosters effective collaboration with manufacturing and cross-departmental employees, building positive relationships.
  • Coordinates with HR on manufacturing personnel matters when required.

General Responsibilities (35%)

  • Performs machining tasks to support staff as needed.
  • Organizes and executes machining operations on assigned projects, delegating tasks as appropriate.
  • Acts as lead for specific projects.
  • Participates in special projects as assigned.
  • Ensures strong collaboration with Sales, Engineering, and Assembly teams.
  • Models a positive attitude and encourages strong team engagement.
  • Responds effectively to resource constraints, making judicious decisions in the company's best interest regarding resource utilization.
  • Encourages a culture of continuous improvement by motivating employees to propose enhancements related to their roles.
  • Continuously evaluates machining performance to ensure all functions have sufficient resources, materials, and information for optimal productivity.
  • Identifies staffing deficiencies and advises on recruitment, performance improvement, training, and development needs.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of manufacturing technologies and processes in line with industry standards.
  • Advises management on the acquisition of new machinery, equipment, tooling, and software to maintain competitive advantage.

Other Duties (5%)

  • Engages in special projects as requested by executive management.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent listening skills to fully comprehend inquiries and communications among all employees.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with organizational abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of quickly learning new software.
  • Familiarity with Epicor or similar ERP systems.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, job travelers, work instructions, program and tooling sheets, and quality documents, with knowledge of GD&T.
  • Experience with Mastercam and SolidWorks or similar CAD/CAM software.
  • Skilled in using handheld inspection tools such as calipers and micrometers, with an understanding of their applications.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and tolerancing.
  • Strong understanding of the manufacturability of various materials including aluminum, steel, stainless steel, tool steel, and plastics.
  • In-depth knowledge of machining and fabrication processes, as well as electro-mechanical assembly.
  • Comprehensive understanding of tooling and machinery types, their applications, and proper usage.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of ten years of relevant experience, including at least five years in a supervisory capacity or equivalent skills.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in a technical field is preferred.

ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS

Involves sitting, standing, bending, and lifting up to 15 pounds, along with repetitive movements primarily due to computer work. Must be able to navigate the entire facility. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer are required. All ergonomic tasks must be performed without significant risk of injury to oneself or others.
