Job Overview

Position Summary:
The Personal Care Attendant is responsible for addressing the daily living and safety requirements of assigned participants, while assisting licensed nursing staff in delivering care through various participant care activities and related non-professional services.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Attend to participants' personal hygiene and basic needs promptly and with compassion in both PACE Center and community environments.
  • Support participants with daily living activities, including feeding, mobility, and other essential tasks.
  • Respond to participant requests efficiently or seek appropriate assistance when necessary.
  • Assist with assigned non-sterile procedures and other tasks that support participant care.
  • Ensure participant comfort by keeping necessary supplies accessible and maintaining their physical privacy.
  • Document and record participant care information accurately on designated forms.
  • Adhere to established guidelines for accurate and timely information recording.
  • Follow established procedures diligently.
  • Respond promptly to call lights and fulfill participant requests or obtain necessary assistance.
  • Maintain clinical competencies as defined for the assigned unit.
  • Provide safety-related instruction to participants as per their care plan, demonstrating appropriate health and safety practices.
  • Keep the participant's immediate surroundings clean and comfortable.
  • Assist in maintaining an orderly and clean care unit by organizing supplies and equipment.
  • Actively participate in ensuring continuity of participant care.
  • Monitor participants for emotional, behavioral, and physical changes, reporting any significant observations to nursing staff.
  • Ensure compliance with procedures and policies, using equipment and supplies efficiently while alerting management to any issues.
  • Provide homemaking services, including meal preparation and serving according to dietary needs outlined in the care plan.
  • Perform light housekeeping tasks as specified in the care plan, such as cleaning and laundry.
  • Complete other assigned duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • Relevant experience in participant care, including skills such as temperature, pulse, respiration monitoring, and assistance with activities of daily living.
  • High School diploma or GED, with the ability to read, write, and comprehend verbal or written instructions.
  • A minimum of one year of experience providing care or services to frail or elderly individuals.
  • Completion of food handling training and certification required upon hire or within the first month of employment.
  • CPR certification is mandatory upon hire.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Preferred knowledge of the PACE program.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Understanding of the physical, mental, and social needs of frail older adults.
  • Capability to manage shifting priorities based on participant needs.
  • Demonstration of necessary skills and knowledge as outlined in the position-specific Competency Assessment Profile.
Working Conditions:

The working conditions and physical demands required for this role include:

  • Ability to work the required schedule.
  • Physical strength to perform essential job functions.
  • Occasional travel between various sites and to participants' homes.
  • Use of a personal vehicle may be necessary.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Proof of automobile insurance coverage is necessary for mileage reimbursement.
  • Potential use of a personal cell phone for business purposes, with eligibility for a stipend.
