Position Overview: The Head Pastry Artisan is accountable for the comprehensive execution and innovation of the pastry menu for The Modern and its associated cafes. This role entails overseeing the entire pastry division, guaranteeing that the Pastry Sous Chef team is equipped with the necessary tools and resources to produce high-quality pastry items across all segments. The ideal candidate should possess an unwavering passion for desserts, a positive demeanor, and a strong work ethic. Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct the pastry division to ensure outstanding performance and hospitality during service periods, maintaining consistent quality and timely service.
  • Foster a collaborative relationship with the leadership of the cultural institution, exploring opportunities for synergy through exhibitions and sustainable practices.
  • Serve as a reliable partner to the Executive Chef, upholding positive relationships and clear communication with kitchen and service teams.
  • Craft and refine all recipes, ensuring that product preparation and execution align with the restaurant's standards and dedication to culinary excellence.
  • Provide ongoing leadership and mentorship to all pastry staff, actively participating in service as needed.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership role within a pastry department.
  • Certification in a hospitality-related field or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of baking and pastry techniques, along with proficiency in kitchen equipment.
  • Positive attitude, ability to accept and provide direction, and a passion for the culinary arts.
  • Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus but not mandatory.
