Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team at Conemaugh Miners Medical Center. As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results, while maintaining a high level of quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of moderately complex and highly complex tests on patients of all ages, including blood bank, chemistry, hematology, coagulation, microbiology, and urinalysis.
  • Apply principles, theories, and techniques according to laboratory practices and procedures to produce accurate test results.
  • Maintain procedural quality standards and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Perform calibration, quality control, and instrument function checks, as well as preventative maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Monitor and review QC and worksheets for completeness and accuracy.
  • Recognize, confirm, and verify test results that are unusual or outside of established parameters.
  • Communicate opportunities for improvement and provide solutions to problems.
  • Assume responsibility for charge tech duties on off-shifts, as assigned.
  • Provide training and education to employees and students on laboratory procedures and techniques.
  • Maintain effective use of reagents, chemicals, and supplies, and ensure adequate supplies in all work areas.
  • Perform and evaluate competency, as requested or assigned.
  • Follow hospital and lab safety procedures and guidelines, and report unsafe practices or conditions to management.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology, MLS, or related science, with at least 12 months of hospital training or near completion of program.
  • One year of experience as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist in a clinical laboratory, preferred.
  • Currently registered with American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or eligible for registry, with successful completion within 12 months of employment.
  • BLS/CPR certification within 6 months of employment.
