Leadership Duties:
As a Laboratory Operations Manager, you will be responsible for:
- Recommending qualified personnel to ensure quality care and services.
- Continuously evaluating and enhancing the performance of services provided.
- Maintaining quality control programs as necessary.
- Providing orientation and ongoing training for all department personnel.
- Identifying space and resource needs for the department.
Supervisory Duties:
In this role, you will also:
- Facilitate employee training and development.
- Independently assess and assign work, evaluating job performance.
- Direct and schedule staff, including managing overtime.
- Implement departmental policies and ensure compliance among staff.
Core Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining professional skills and providing appropriate care across all age groups.
- Ensuring personal competency and that of employees in all lab procedures and equipment.
- Managing daily work schedules to optimize productivity and adjusting staffing as needed.
- Overseeing documentation of employee hours and time management.
- Ensuring adherence to quality control procedures and proper documentation.
- Collaborating with the Laboratory Manager on policy and procedure matters.
- Troubleshooting equipment issues and facilitating resolutions.
- Maintaining compliance with documentation requirements set by accrediting bodies.
- Training new employees in accordance with laboratory practices.
- Evaluating new or modified test procedures as directed.
- Managing inventory and ordering of laboratory supplies.
Qualifications:
Education:
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or a related field, and completion of an NAACLS approved laboratory training program.
Preferred: N/A.
Experience:
Required: Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist in a clinical laboratory setting.
Preferred: 2 years’ experience in a related laboratory section.
Certification:
Required: Registration as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology, and BLS/CPR certification within 6 months of employment.
Preferred: Specialty certification in the area of expertise.
Skills:
Strong ability to meet the age-specific needs of patients, effective communication skills, problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
