Position Overview:
We are looking for a full-time Clinical Laboratory Technologist to join our team. The successful candidate will conduct a variety of laboratory tests on patients of all ages, adhering to established guidelines and protocols. This role involves applying technical expertise to ensure accurate test results across various disciplines, including Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, and Microbiology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize technical knowledge to uphold quality standards in laboratory procedures.
- Conduct specific testing as required, ensuring timely reporting of results.
- Perform calibrations, quality control checks, and routine maintenance on laboratory instruments.
- Manage clerical tasks associated with laboratory operations and specimen handling.
- Identify and address unusual test results, communicating pertinent information to the Medical Technologist or Laboratory Manager.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and education to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Adhere to safety protocols and report any unsafe conditions to management.
- Follow infection control guidelines and recommend improvements to laboratory processes.
- Maintain effective inventory management of reagents and supplies.
- Perform phlebotomy procedures as necessary, considering the specific needs of patients.
- Commit to the department's schedule and participate in shift rotations as required.
Additional Duties:
- Undertake other responsibilities as assigned based on qualifications.
Qualifications:
Education:
Required: High school diploma and completion of a one-year medical laboratory training program accredited by recognized organizations.
Preferred: Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology and completion of an accredited training program.
Experience:
Preferred: At least one year of clinical laboratory experience is preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
Required: Certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or completion of certification within the first year of employment.
BLS/CPR certification within six months of employment.
Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to address patient needs across all age groups.
- Proficient in following procedures accurately under the guidance of a Medical Technologist.
- Strong communication skills.
- Capable of recognizing and resolving minor issues.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Competent in meeting deadlines consistently.
Physical Requirements:
As outlined by the Occupational Health Department's physical requirements and working conditions.
