Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at Conemaugh Miners Medical Center. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality laboratory services to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of waived, moderately complex, and highly complex tests on patients of all ages.
  • Apply principles, theories, and techniques according to Laboratory Practices and Procedures to produce accurate test results.
  • Maintain and apply procedural knowledge necessary to deliver efficient, uninterrupted service while reporting test results within specified time limits.
  • Perform calibrations, quality control, instrument function verification, scheduled preventative maintenance, and minor troubleshooting.
  • Recognize, confirm, and/or verify test results that are unusual, delta failures, or verify failures, and inform the Medical Technologist or Laboratory Manager of all pertinent issues and unresolved problems.
  • Maintain professional skills, participate in continuing education, and provide appropriate care to patients of all ages.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines, and report unsafe practices or conditions to the Manager.
  • Follow basic infection control practices and guidelines.
  • Recommend opportunities to improve quality and/or workflow, and use these innovative ideas to develop new or improved processes or services.
  • Maintain effective and efficient use of reagents, chemicals, and supplies, while assuring adequate inventory in all daily work areas.
  • Draw venous, arterial, capillary samples from patients according to phlebotomy procedures and age-specific needs of the patient.
  • Maintain appropriate commitment to the department schedule in terms of attendance and hours of work, rotating all section shifts and with adequate training, rotating between sections as needed.
  • Participate in continuing education as required.
Requirements
  • High school graduate and graduate from a one-year medical laboratory or clinical laboratory training program approved by the ABHES, CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS.
  • Certification with American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or successful completion of certification within 12 months of employment.
  • BLS/CPR within 6 months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology and completion of a medical laboratory training or clinical laboratory training program approved by ABHES or CAHEA or other organizations approved by HHS.
  • One year of clinical laboratory experience.
Physical Requirements

As defined by the physical requirements and working conditions form maintained by the Occupational Health Department.
