Conemaugh Miners Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in providing accurate and timely test results to support patient care.
Key Responsibilities- Perform a variety of waived, moderately complex, and highly complex tests on patients of all ages.
- Apply principles, theories, and techniques according to Laboratory Practices and Procedures to produce accurate test results.
- Maintain and apply procedural knowledge necessary to deliver efficient, uninterrupted service while reporting test results within specified time limits.
- Perform calibrations, quality control, instrument function verification, scheduled preventative maintenance, and minor troubleshooting according to section's procedure manual.
- Recognize, confirm, and/or verify test results that are unusual, delta failures, or verify failures as described in the procedure manuals and inform the Medical Technologist or Laboratory Manager of all pertinent issues and unresolved problems.
- Maintain professional skills, participate in continuing education, and provide appropriate care to patients of all ages.
- Follow safety procedures and guidelines, report unsafe practice or conditions to Manager, and follow basic infection control practices and guidelines.
- Recommend opportunities to improve quality and/or workflow and use these innovative ideas to develop new or improved processes or services.
- Maintain effective and efficient use of reagents, chemicals, and supplies while assuring adequate inventory in all daily work areas.
- Draw venous, arterial, capillary samples from patients according to phlebotomy procedures and age-specific needs of the patient.
- Maintain appropriate commitment to the department schedule in terms of attendance and hours of work, rotate all section shifts, and with adequate training, rotate between sections as needed.
- Participate in continuing education as required.
- High school graduate and graduate from a one-year medical laboratory or clinical laboratory training program approved by the ABHES, CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS.
- Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology and completion of a medical laboratory training or clinical laboratory training program approved by ABHES or CAHEA or other organizations approved by HHS.
- One year of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
- Certification with American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or successful completion of certification within 12 months of employment.
- BLS/CPR within 6 months of employment.
