The Department of Transportation is actively seeking a qualified individual to oversee our mission of enhancing lives through effective transportation solutions.
This role is situated within the Office of Policy & Intergovernmental Affairs, Bureau of Policy & Planning. We are in search of a visionary leader dedicated to crafting comprehensive policies and strategies that evaluate and enhance the sustainability and climate resilience of the State's transportation systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise the Sustainability and Resilience unit, ensuring alignment with the Governor's Executive Orders and Public Acts focused on minimizing the state's carbon emissions and fortifying the resilience of our infrastructure.
- Manage three pivotal programs authorized by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA): the Carbon Reduction Program, the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program, and the Promoting Resilient Operations for Transformative, Efficient, and Cost-Saving Transportation (PROTECT) Program.
- Develop and implement effective communication strategies, working both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Coordinate with State and Federal agencies, external stakeholders, and the public, delivering technical information to diverse audiences.
- Foster and maintain strong relationships with various offices and Bureaus within the Department of Transportation.

Position Highlights:
- Full-time position, 40 hours per week.
- Location: Newington, CT.
- Eligibility for telework following a successful introductory period, in accordance with established policies.
- Supervisors are expected to spend a significant portion of their time in the office to effectively manage their teams.
Role Duties:
- Oversee staff within the Sustainability and Resilience Unit, including scheduling, task assignment, and performance evaluations.
- Conduct fieldwork and travel as necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.
- Support the implementation of IIJA programs and facilitate public outreach to promote unit initiatives.
- Contribute to the development and assessment of legislative and regulatory proposals.
- Monitor project and program progress related to IIJA initiatives.
- Assist in updating departmental manuals and guidelines to integrate sustainability and resilience considerations.
- Prepare educational materials regarding the Department's sustainability efforts.
- Promote transportation alternatives utilizing cleaner energy sources.
- Collaborate with various bureaus to identify data needs supporting sustainability initiatives.
- Maintain unit procedures and develop policy recommendations.
- Act as a liaison with other units and external agencies regarding unit policies.
- Oversee the preparation of reports and studies, ensuring accuracy and compliance with standards.
- Prepare presentations for public and legislative hearings as necessary.
