About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Transportation Engineer 2 to join our team at the State of Connecticut. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for designing and implementing transportation projects that improve the safety and efficiency of our highway system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct traffic engineering studies and perform traffic flow analyses to identify areas for improvement
  • Develop designs for traffic signal systems and traffic control signals to optimize traffic flow
  • Review major commercial developments for their impact on highway operations and traffic safety
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including town officials and private citizens, to address traffic concerns on State roadways
  • Prepare reports for the Office of the State Traffic Administration and review traffic control signals, signal systems, highway signing, and pavement marking designs by consultant engineers
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering and two (2) years of experience in a professional transportation engineering or transportation construction engineering capacity
  • Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of transportation engineering, including bridge design, foundations, highway design, transportation facilities design, transportation planning, maintenance, drainage, or hydraulics, research, pavement design, pavement management, and traffic
  • Considerable skill in use of computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) applications and technical skills in preparation of engineering and administrative reports
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate engineering, highway, structural, and pavement design, hydraulic, and traffic problems and provide effective solutions
Preferred Qualifications
  • Possession of an accredited Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam/EIT licensure
  • 3.0 or higher grade-point average in relevant engineering and math courses
  • Traffic engineering experience
  • Experience utilizing computer software such as MicroStation, OpenRoads, or other similar CAD software
