Job Title: Transportation Planner 2

Are you a transportation planning professional looking for a challenging and rewarding role? Do you have a passion for cultural resources and environmental planning? We are seeking a highly skilled Transportation Planner 2 to join our team at the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation.

Job Summary:

The Transportation Planner 2 will be responsible for coordinating complex planning projects, conducting field work, and developing cultural resource studies. This role will also involve working with local, regional, state, and federal agencies, consultants, and stakeholders to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate complex planning projects, including transportation planning studies and cultural resource reviews
  • Conduct field work, including site visits and surveys, to identify and evaluate cultural resources
  • Develop cultural resource studies, including reports and technical documents, to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations
  • Work with local, regional, state, and federal agencies, consultants, and stakeholders to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations
  • Prepare and review reports, studies, and surveys to ensure compliance with department standards and needs
Requirements:
  • Seven (7) years of professional experience in transportation civil engineering or transportation, urban, regional, or environmental planning
  • One (1) year of the General Experience must include individual responsibility for the coordination of complex planning projects in a relevant planning area
  • Ability to meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards
  • Experience applying federal and state laws, regulations, and guidance associated with cultural resources to projects and guiding projects through the Section 106 process
  • Experience writing, reviewing, and presenting reports or documents related to cultural resources
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in architectural history, archaeology, anthropology, historic preservation, or closely related field
  • Experience identifying and implementing avoidance and mitigation measures to protect cultural resources, including preparing Section 106 agreement documents
  • Experience fulfilling consultation with state agencies, cultural resource stakeholders, and the public as required under Section 106 of the NHPA
