About the Role

The Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Supervising Planner to lead our efforts in developing comprehensive policies and plans to assess and address the sustainability and climate resilience of the State's transportation infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise the Sustainability and Resilience unit, overseeing tasks necessary to meet the intent of the Governor's Executive Orders and Public Acts aimed at reducing the state's carbon footprint and building the resiliency of our state assets.
  • Develop effective, efficient communication and work collaboratively to build and maintain relationships with other offices and Bureaus within DOT.
  • Coordinate with State and Federal agencies, external stakeholders, and the public, presenting technical materials to diverse audiences.
  • Support public outreach efforts to advance unit plans and programs.
  • Oversee consultant task order assignments and contribute to the development and review of legislative and regulatory proposals.
  • Track project and program status for IIJA programs, including Carbon Reduction, PROTECT, and National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Programs.
  • Assist in updating pertinent Department manuals and program guidance to incorporate sustainability and resiliency into project considerations.
  • Develop and maintain potential infrastructure projects, programs, and studies for competitive funding submission.
  • Develop internal and external communication and educational materials on the Department's sustainability and resiliency work.
  • Promote transportation options using alternative energy sources with cleaner emission profiles.
  • Work with bureaus to identify existing data, gaps in data, and future data needs to support sustainability and resiliency efforts within the Department.
  • Maintain unit procedures and develop or make recommendations on the policies and standards.
  • Act as liaison with other operating units and Bureaus, agencies, and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the preparation of reports, studies, surveys, and other related activities.
  • Develop findings and conclusions and make recommendations based on completed analyses.
  • Provide final review for accuracy and conformance with standards and requirements.
  • Provide direction in the interpretation and coordination of transportation plans, programs, and activities to local, regional, state, and federal agencies.
  • Prepare presentations for legislative and public hearings and public meetings as required.
