Job Overview

Position Summary

The Director of Logistics Programs at Galveston College is responsible for overseeing and managing a comprehensive technical program while also fulfilling teaching responsibilities as assigned. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the quality of the educational experience within the classroom and is accountable for the overall teaching and learning process. The Director operates under the supervision of the Division Director and has the opportunity to impact institutional policies and practices through active participation in various committees. This position encompasses both instructional and administrative responsibilities and is essential in bridging communication between faculty and the Division Director.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assists in the preparation and monitoring of the program budget.
  • Handles departmental purchase requests, ensuring accuracy and compliance with institutional procedures.
  • Facilitates schedule development and resolves any course conflicts that may arise.
  • Collaborates with the Division Director in evaluating faculty performance as needed.
  • Mentors and supervises adjunct faculty within the department.
  • Conducts evaluations of adjunct faculty in accordance with college policies.
  • Ensures the timely administration of final exams according to the established schedule.
  • Submits final grades to the Registrar's office punctually.
  • Manages textbook requests in line with college guidelines.
  • Works closely with faculty to develop, justify, and revise course offerings and curricula.
  • Implements effective recruitment and retention strategies for the program.
  • Actively engages in recruiting efforts for prospective students and responds to inquiries.
  • Organizes and leads departmental advisory meetings, providing updates to the Division Director.
  • Participates in program reviews and evaluation processes to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Maintains accurate reporting of faculty workloads.
  • Oversees the inventory and security of all program-related facilities and equipment.
  • Teaches assigned classes and fulfills all responsibilities of a college instructor.
  • Provides academic advising to students as necessary.
  • Contributes to a safe educational environment by participating in drills and training for emergency preparedness.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding sensitive information related to students and staff.
  • Regular on-site attendance is required to foster teamwork and collaboration.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Possession of current certifications relevant to the program.
  • An Associate Degree in a related field with five years of relevant work experience, or a Bachelor's or Master's Degree with three years of relevant experience.
  • Prior teaching experience is preferred.
  • Ability to assist both new and returning students in achieving their educational objectives.
  • Strong decision-making skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to student success.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment while maintaining integrity and professionalism.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills are essential.
  • Competence in planning and delivering effective classroom instruction based on approved curricula.
  • Ability to select and utilize diverse teaching materials and methods to meet individual student needs.
  • Commitment to achieving retention goals in alignment with college standards.

Work Environment

  • Primarily operates in a climate-controlled setting with minimal health and safety risks.
  • Requires physical stamina and the ability to lift materials weighing up to fifty pounds.
  • Involves various physical activities such as lifting, bending, and standing.
