Job Summary

UTMB Health is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the Department Chair for SON Undergraduate Studies. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the administration, strategic planning, and academic excellence of our undergraduate nursing programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Vision: Provide strategic leadership to achieve department, SON, and University goals.
  • Curriculum Development: Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of undergraduate curricula to maintain high standards of educational excellence.
  • Resource Management: Manage departmental resources, including budget, faculty and staff, to optimize program effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Faculty Development: Foster a collaborative and supportive environment that promotes faculty development, mentorship, and scholarly activities.
  • Faculty Workload and Evaluations: Oversee faculty workload/assignments and conduct faculty evaluations in collaboration with Program Directors.
  • Faculty Recruitment and Hiring: Oversee the recruiting and hiring process for faculty candidates and make recommendations to the Dean.
  • Grant Management: Submit and manage grants to fund faculty and program development initiatives in conjunction with the Vice Deans and Associate Deans.
  • Community Engagement: Engage with community stakeholders, healthcare organizations, and alumni to strengthen partnerships and support the school's mission.
  • Special Projects: Assist with special projects, such as establishing a Center for Innovation Excellence, in collaboration with the Vice Dean of Academics.
Requirements
  • Eligibility: Eligible for licensure or licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas.
  • Education: Doctoral Degree in nursing or related field (MSN in Nursing required).
  • Experience: Significant experience in academic leadership, preferably within a nursing program.
  • Qualifications: A distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, and service in nursing education, as well as experience with accreditation processes and curriculum development.
